Failed To Pay Insurance Dues

Cheque For £10 was Dishonoured

A Conisbrough garage owner offered to pay up immediately when a Ministry of National Insurance Inspector saw him about contributions for his employee which he had not paid. He gave the inspector a cheque for £10, but it was dishonoured by the bank, Miss P.M.Drake (prosecuting) told Doncaster West Riding Magistrates on Tuesday.

Levi Lowe, owner of the Red Lion Garage, Conisbrough, was fined a maximum of £10 for failing to pay £10 5s 4d contributions between September last year and May this year. He was also ordered to pay the contributions.

Miss Drake said the cheque was offered in June. The inspector saw Lowe again and he offered to pay the next day, but did not do so. After that, they said written demands and he still did not pay.

Lowe, who pleaded guilty said he had paid a cheque into the bank to cover the one he had made out to the Ministry. He was off sick for five weeks and when he returned he found that cheque returned because it needed another signature.
