Fatal Accident at Cadeby Main Colliery.

Mr. D. Wightman held an inquest at Montagu Cottage Hospital, on Wednesday afternoon, touching the death of William Gibson, 57. a dataller, employed the Cadeby Main Colliery, who died in the institution from injuries sustained by a fall of roof on Monday.

Mr. W. Parrott and Mr. G. H. Hirst were present on behalf of the Yorkshire Miners’ Association, and Mr. H. S. Witty represented the Denaby and Colliery Company.

The evidence showed that deceased and another man named Charles Hall were repairing an airway, when a stone fell from the roof about a yard square, 14- inches thick, and weighing nearly a ton.

Hall, whose leg was broken, scrambled away to obtain assistance.

Deceased expired after being extricated and removed to the Hospital.

A verdict of “Accidental death” was returned.
