Felony by a Lodger at Denaby.

Henry Thompson, of Denaby, was charged by Joseph Howells, miner, of the same place, with stealing a coat, valued at 15 shillings from his house.

The prosecutor deposed that the defendant had lodged at his house for about five months. On Saturday 27th of March he left in a hurry, and he had not seen him since, until he was apprehended for stealing a coat, which he (the prosecutor) missed immediately the prisoner left.

The prisoner left owing 14s 9d for lodgings.

Evidence was then forthcoming showing that the prisoner gone to Dudley, and while there gave three pence to a woman for pawning the missing coat for the sum of three shillings.

PC Barr stated that the prisoner, admitted stealing the coat, on him charging him with having done so.

The prisoner was sentenced to 1 month´s imprisonment.
