A Fighting O’Rourke

Denaby and Cadeby colliery’s amateur boxing club have a very promising youngster Pat O’Rourke, 13 and half year-old schoolboy, who scales six stone 11lbs.

Secretary E. Oxer says: “Although he is a has only had two contests, both of which he won we are having great difficulty in finding an opponent for him for our show at baths Hall, Denaby, on October 25.

At the time of writing he is not engaged, but we are hoping that he will have an opponent shortly.” Mr. Oxer adds that this Scots boy and his friend, Steve Joyce (who had a television appearance with Wilfred pickles recently) will both be entered for this year’s championships.

Steve is 14 and fights at 8st 6lbs. Like Pat, he’s been coached by Martin Higgins, the club instructor, who was very well known as a boxer and is doing a fine job for these and other members of the club.
