Floods In The Mexbro’ District.

Yesterday there was an overflow of water in the Don and Dearne valleys, near Mexbro’.

The Don ran swiftly past Mexbro’, and near Denaby it overflowed its banks and inundated a large area of land on either side of the Manchester, Sheffield, and Lincolnshire Railway. In this direction it united with the canal, and was level with the bridge leading from Denaby to Mexbro’ . But the road having been recently raised by the Mexbro’ Local Board, it was not rendered impassable.

From Bolton-on-Dearne to Conisbro’ the Dearne covered hundreds of acres of land, and near Barmbro’ and on the road to Melton the highway was in parts impassable. This was also the case on the road leading from Bolton to Mexbro’.

At Conisbro’ the Dearne and the canal joined and rushed along at a good depth over the fields near the new pit being sunk by the Denaby Main Colliery Co.
