From Daylands Ave. To Canada

It’s a. small world. A Conisbrough man and woman, who for years as youngsters were next-door neighbours are now both living in Canada—in Toronto and British Columbia.

The Ellis and Limer families have been neighbours in Daylands Avenue, Conisbrough, for over 20 years and now Mrs. Ellis’s eldest son, Fred, and Patricia Limer live in the same country.

Mr. Fred Ellis, a well-known Conisbrough electrician, emigrated to Hamilton, near Toronto, about two years ago. This summer, his mother, Mrs. Nelly Ellis, spent a three months’ holiday with him and his family.

While she was out there, Mrs.Pat Roan, her husband Ian, and two children. Joanne (3), and 11 months-old Claire, flew out to British Columbia to start a new life in Prince George.

Graduate

Ian is a graduate in mechanical engineering of Leeds University. His wife is a former student of Durham University. Both are 29. He will be working as a project engineer for the Reed paper Group.

Mrs. Pat Roan, the daughter of Mr. Leonard Limer and Mrs. Limer, J.P., attended Mex and borough Grammar School and taught in the area for a short time before she was married,

Mrs. Doreen Limer, of 33, Day-lands Avenue, told the “South Yorkshire Times” this week: “They seem to be settling down well.”

She said that it was just coincidence that the two families were both living in Canada. “Ian has always relished the idea of living there. He mentioned it casually one day and the next we knew he had got himself a job out there.”

The Roan family will stay in Canada for at least two or three years, when they will be given the option of an all-expenses paid return flight home.
