Gaoled For Four Years

A 29 years old Denaby Main labourer, accused of wounding his wife by slashing her face with a razor blade, was goaled for four years yesterday at Sheffield Assizes.

Geoffrey Fox, of Tickhill Square, Denaby Main, changed his plea to guilty to wounding his wife, Ivy, with intent to do previous bodily harm or to disfigure or disable her, after she had finished giving evidence.

Earlier the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Parker, and a jury heard that events at a Filey holiday camp where Fox took a summer job, as a kitchen porter and his wife as a dining room supervisor, led to the breakup of their marriage.

Love

Lord Parker told Cox: “I take into consideration the fact that you were still in love with your wife and were exasperated when you found she did not intend to come back to you.”

She left him after catching him with a blonde in a bar, they were told.

After attempts at a reconnection, her husband used the police to arrange a meeting with her, at her parents home in Loxley Avenue. Conisbrough, claimed prosecuting counsel, Mr George Milner.

When she still refused to go back to him, he slashed her face with a razor blade causing “fearful injury” he said.
