Gifts – and Gratitude – for Ex Denaby Youth Leader

Many members and friends gathered at Tom Hill Youth  Centre, Denaby, on Monday when presentations were made to Mr. Raymond Walsh, Youth Leader for the past eight years, who left on Wednesday to take up duties as District You Leader for the Bexhill-on-Sea (Sussex) Area.

Among many who spoke of Mr Walsh’s invaluable and devoted service,   Mr: L. A, Balding said “I have met with friendliness ever since, I first came to the club. This, I believe, is a true reflection of Mr Walsh.

“In the same way the support of the Old Boys Association is, in itself, only a true reflection of the support and kindness given by Mr. Walsh to everyone in this club.”

Mr, R. Milller, chairman of the Management Committee, presented Mr. Walsh with two dining chairs: Miss Pat Southwell presented a table lighter on behalf of Members, and Mr. R. Marston, chairman of the Old Boys’ Association, presented a lambs wool hearth rug.

Mr, Marston said he hail known Mr, Walsh for only two years and he thanked him for the assistance he had given to the Association.

Advice and Encouragement

Wishing Mr. Walsh every success in his new position Trevor Sanderson expressed his thanks on behalf of the Management Committee, “I would like to thank Mr. Walsh for the good advice and encouragement he has given ever since we have known him.”

Mr. Walsh thanked everyone connected with the club for their work and assistance. He hoped, he said, to revisit all the old friends when he and his wife and family were settled in their new home.

“From the bottom of my heart I would like to thank all for your confidence and assistance you have give me. These 8 ½ years at Denaby have been very happy ones. We shall never forget this village.”

One of the original club members, Mr William Reeve (20), a deputy at Cadeby Main Colliery, will be acting Youth Leader until Mr Walsh’s successor can commence his appointment.
