Gifts for Six at Denaby ICI Factory

Six long serving members of ICI (Nobel division) factory at Denaby Main received wristwatches last Thursday evening at a function in the Crown Hotel, Bawtry

The presentations marked the completion of 20 year’s service with the company by each of the recipients: Miss EM Lee, leading hand, electric fuse department, Miss O Sleaford, detonator assembly, Mr D Buxton, Warner, Mr E Davies, transport drivers, Mr EA Parry, transport driver and Mr C Robinson, motor mechanic.

They receive their rewards from Mr L Hall, joint managing director of Nobel Division, who with Dr R.H.Westwood, head of Technical Service Department, had travelled from Divisional Headquarters in Glasgow to make the presentations.

Mr all described continuity of services is of the greatest importance in the growth and expansion of a factory. He thought this especially true of Denaby, where not only had many employees long service but most of them had, or did have, one or more relatives employed in the factory. And some of these family connections dated back as far as the early 1900’s.

He also spoke of the Division’s activities during 1956, which he described as “a satisfactory year generally.” In the home and export markets sales of explosives remained at a high level and in several major product groups they had exceeded previous records. Sales of chemical products that continue to make progress and the demand for certain of these abroad was substantially higher than in 1955.
