Girl Killed on Same Road.

A verdict of “Accidental death” was recorded at an inquest at Fullerton Hospital, Denaby, yesterday, on  Sarah Knowles (13), daughter of Edwin Knowles, 36, Edlington Street, Denaby, who was knocked down by a motor-car in Doncaster Road Tuesday.

The father said that sent his daughter on an errand to a shop in Doncaster Road.

Several witnesses said that the child dashed across the road and was knocked down by commercial traveller’s car, driven by William Platte, of 5, Axholme Road, Doncaster.

The witnesses agreed that the car was being driven a moderate speed, and that the accident could not have been avoided.

The driver, giving evidence, said that he swerved to the right to miss the girl, but she was struck by his lamp.

The jury exonerated the driver, and added rider that the teachers of the elementary schools should be asked give the children instructions on “safety first” crossing the roads in the district.
