Golden Wedding.

Christmas Day was the 50th anniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Woodward, 106, North-cliff Road, Conisborough, and on that day their youngest son Wilfred was married.

It was at Christ Church, Doncaster, on Christmas Day, 1886, that Miss Catherine Sykes, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Sykes, sawyers, of Printing Office Street, Doncaster, was married by the Rev. Sykes to Mr. Joe Woodward, a member of a well-known Conisborough family residing in Church Street.

Mrs. Woodward was 18 and Mr. Woodward was 25. They celebrated their 68th and 75th birthdays on December 13th and 8th respectively.

Mr. Woodward, though born in Tickhill, has lived in Conisborough for the greater part of his life. His mother died when he was five days old. Of the 56 years that Mr. Woodward has spent in Conisborough he worked at the Denaby Main Colliery for 49½, retiring and being placed on the Colliery Pension Scheme in May, 1931.

The mother and step-father of Mrs. Woodward went to live in South Africa about 1890. For the past two years Mr. Woodward has been confined to bed with internal trouble, but remains cheerful and interested in what is going on around him.

Mr. and Mrs. Woodward have had 12 children, of whom seven survive. They have 24 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
