Good Friday at Conisborough

Three New Conisborough miners named John Walsh, James Killgallan, and Thomas Killgallan, were summoned for having been found upon licensed premises at Conisborough, during prohibited hours on 21 April.

None of the defendants appeared.

PS Horton stated that on Good Friday, 21st of April, 3:25 pm, he visited the Castle Inn Conisborough in company with Inspector Watson and PC Hague. In the taproom they found 33 men, amongst them being the three defendant.he asked James Killgallan what he was doing there, and he replied, “You don’t know me; I come from Sheffield.” Witness told him that he knew him and that he lived in Balby Street, New Conisborough.

They are all had glasses containing beer in front of them.

Thomas Killgallan refused to give his name until they got halfway to the police station. Walsh gave him his name.

Inspector Watson gave corroborative evidence.

James Killgallan was fined 20 shillings and costs, and the other two defendants had 20 shillings including costs to pay.
