Harold Sapey Is Denaby’s New Boss

Harold Sapey, 29 years old former Mexborough town player, was last Friday appointed player-manager of Denaby United.

Sapey who lives at Hampden Road. Mexborough, will succeed Harry Lee, who resigned some two Months ago. Chosen from eight applicants, and currently manager of Thornhill old boys, Harold cannot play for the Denaby side this season as the appointment was made after the March transfer deadline. The two sides are now in negotiations about his release for the managerial post. Denaby united chairman.

Mr. Eddie Langford, told me this week “Sapey is under contract to the old boys’ side until the end of the season and therefore will not be able to play for us until next term, but we hope Thornhill will release him to come along and get to know the players”

The original list of applications was reduced to a short list of three at a meeting last week. One Of these was Keith Roddis, a regular first teamer with Denaby, who lives at Rawmarsh the other man considered was Jim Kilkenny.

Mr. Lanford  added,  “Our first aim now is to get the support back at Denaby. No matter how many new appointments are made we cannot hope to run a successful side without support. We must persuade the people to come through the turnstiles. Attendance has fallen drastically over the past season.
