He has Gained Masters Ticket.

With 10 years service in the Merchant Navy behind him, Mr David Smethurst, son of a well-known Conisbrough estate agent, has gained a Masters certificate.

David, aged 26, son of Mr and Mrs H.K. Smethhurst, of The Dale, Conisbrough, joined the merchant Navy, after leaving. Mexborough Grammar School 10 years ago.

His preliminary training took place at Trinity House Navigational College, Hull and lasted three months before he went to sea as Cadet.

Throughout his service he had been with the firm Furness Withey Shipping Co, sailing in passenger – cargo vessels for the past four years on eastern Mediterranean routes.

Since September he has been studying for qualifying exams at his home in Ferry Terrace, Conisbrough, and he now plans to gay and Xserve Masters certificate.

David’s wife, Mrs Jennifer Smethurst, is daughter of Mr and Mrs A.B. Bennett, of Elm Green Lane, Conisbrough, and has her own hairdressing business in Wray´s buildings, Denaby. The couple have been married five years.

David´s only sister, Mary, is at Mexborough grammar school.
