“Conisbrough is a good club – not as a racing club, but as a cycling club,” said Mr. I. Delbridge, of Hemsworth Wheeler’s cycling club, when he proposed a toast to Conisbrough Ivanhoe cycling club at their annual dinner and presentation of awards on Saturday evening.

“And I want all you young members to realise that,” he added.

Mr. Delbridge said there were very few dinners where one could see a gathering of cyclists such as this. Referring to Miss Anita M. James who won both the ladies runs, attendance and ladies 10 miles TT trophies, Mr Delbridge said: “She had beaten our leading lady riders when she was only 15 years old.”

Mr Delbridge went on to describe the vice president of the club, Mr Frank Oldfield, as one of the best cycling officials in the area. “You find him out in early March, in the snow and rain, when most cyclists looked out and then decide that the weather was too bad. I wish we could turn back the clock for 40 years, and then we could have another good official for at least another 40 years.” He said.

Responding to the toast, Mr Oldfield said that Mr. Delbridge was a valuable worker for the N.C.U. “I can always ask him for anything.”
