Hold Up Alleged
Denaby Youths For Trial

At Doncaster yesterday, David Leslie White (17) foundry labourer, of Cliff View, Denaby Main and a 15-year-old haulage hand were both committed to Leeds Assizes with conspiracy to rob Delia Mullen, of Doncaster Road, Conisbrough, and to break into a radio and cycle shop in Denaby marketplace.

Mr M.D.Schaffner (prosecutor) said that Miss Mullen worked at a shop in Maltby Street, Denaby, and at the end of each day she walked to another shop with the day’s takings, which might be as much as £30.

The two boys were seen leaving the shop and had together, Mr Schaffner alleged, formed the intention of robbing her. The robbery, he said, was frustrated because when they saw the girl leave the shop she was with a man.

Mr Schaffner also alleged that these two youths decided to break into the radio and cycle shop in Market Place, Denaby, but this intent also turned out to be abortive.

The youths and Lawrence Samuel Walker, aged 18, brickyard worker, also of Cliff View, were also sent for trial, alleged to have broken into a boat in Bolton St, Denaby, used by a Scout troop and stolen boxing gloves and other property.
