Hollywood Letter

Conisborough is justly proud of its fine old castle, famous for its association with Sir Walter Scott’s immortal book “Ivanhoe,” and eight Conisborough and Denaby girls have written to Hollywood about it.

The girls, all employed at the Denaby powder works of the British Westfalite Co., Ltd. have addressed their letter to Robert Taylor, the film star, who has been allotted the principal role in a projected film “Ivanhoe.’

The girls who are all ardent Taylor fans, state that they thought the star might be interested to know that they live in the township where Ivanhoe resided, and add that in the book his residence was known as Koningsburgh Castle, but since then has gradually changed to Conisborough Castle.

“We live quite near and can see the historic building from our homes,” the letter continues. “We enclose a postcard view of the ruins and sincerely hope you will like it.

The girls have aptly signed themselves the “Eight Imps”—they are all members of the Conisborough and Denaby branch of the Junior Imperial League.
