Ran Into Van
Horse Bolts After Conisborough Accident

An extraordinary accident in Doncaster Road, Conisborough, was described at Doncaster police court on Tuesday, when William Edwin Reynolds (25), insurance agent, Hameline Road, Conisborough, was fined £2 and had his licence endorsed for driving a motor cycle in a dangerous manner on the night of December 5th.

It was stated that the night was dark and snow was falling. Reynolds, with his wife on the pillion, ran into the back of a butcher’s van, standing at the side of Doncaster Road. The impact was such that a man and a boy were pitched out of the van and the horse bolted and broke the shafts. When the horse returned three lamps were still burning.

The defendant said he did not see the lamps on the van, and could not remember anything about it when he came to in a shop. His speed was between 10 and 15 miles. He had held a licence since August, and passed his driving test at the first attempt.

His wife gave evidence to the effect that all she saw of the van before the collision was the lettering on the back.
