Conisborough Horse’s Wretched State.

Joseph Thompson, miner, of Conisborough, was munitioned at Doncaster on Wednesday for having ill-treated a horse by working it in an unfit state at Conisborough on May 11th. He pleaded “not guilty.”

P.c. Driver said that at 3-45 p.m. on May 11 he was in Garden Lane, Conisborough, when He saw defendant driving a horse harnessed to a trap. As the horse came abreast of witness he noticed that it shivered and bit, Witness stopped defendant and told him he wanted to see the horse. Thompson said: “Do you want to see its back” Witness took a saddle cloth from its back and saw an open sore about eight inches long and two inches wide. Thompson said he would be reported.

Defendant said he had only taken the horse to be shod.

A fine of 5s. was imposed on condition that the animal be destroyed.
