Infringement of the Highway Act at Conisborough.


John Turner, son of a Maltby farmer, was charged with breaking the Highway Act.

Police Sgt Morley deposed that on Thursday the 19th ult about 1.40 in the afternoon, he found a horse and cart in Clifton Lane, Conisborough. It was on the side of the road and remained about 5 minutes

He told the defendant it was a queer place to leave his horse and cart, and one of his men said he had told him that he would get into trouble.

Police Constable Guylee, corroborated, and added that defendant was half an hour in the Star Inn.

Defendant denied that he was in the publichouse half an hour, and said that if the magistrates would adjourn the case, he would bring the landlord to state that he was not there 5 minutes

Lord Auckland, said there was no doubt that an offence under theHighway Acthad beencommitted, and defendant would be fined 10 shillings and 9s 6d costs.

The defendant paid the money, informing Guylee that he was a liar.
