Many a pleasant Saturday afternoon’s sport at Tickhill Square, Denaby is recalled this week by the news that has come to hand that Irvine Greenwood of Drakehead Lane, Conisbrough, has been appointed a Yorkshire Council umpire.

For nearly two generations Mr. Greenwood, with his faultless style, his incomparable calmness in the tightest of situations, graced all the Council grounds in South Yorkshire. For 19 seasons he played cricket for Denaby.
