Mexborough and Swinton Times, June 21.

Denaby & Cadeby 105 for 6    Mexborough 124

W Scott 44* L Robinson 5-27, A Robinson 5-50

The return match, between Mexborough and Denaby, was played on Monday afternoon, by arrangement. The weather was fine, but there was a strong wind, which made the atmosphere very cold.

The collieries were set down owing to the Yorkshire Miners Association annual demonstration at Dewsbury, and a great many miners resident in the two townships took the opportunity to witness the match. There was a record attendance of the new ground at Denaby, nearly 700 persons paying admission, the gate money but are mounting to £8 13s.

Mexborough took first knock on a hard wicket and accumulated 124 runs. Luther Robinson’s final analysis read: 18 overs, five maidens, 27 runs, five wickets. A Robinson was credited with a five wicket but they cost him 10 runs each.

Denaby and one hour and three quarters in which to rub off the 124 runs, which is the highest score that has been made against the team in a League match this season.

Scott’s innings of 44 not out was not without faults, but still it was a fine effort and the game closed with the Denaby score at 105 for 6 wickets.
