1—Presentations to Rev. C. H. Randell, departing superintendent minister of Mexboro’ P.M. Circuit.

2—llluminated address presented to Mr. P. M. Walker in recognition of 25 years service as Clerk to Wombwell U.D.C.

3—Denaby Welfare Baths re-opened under management of Conisboro’ U.D.C.

3—Further extension of Mexboro’ Secondary School approved.

3—Australian and Yorkshire cricketers laid wreaths on the graves of Roy Kilmer and Irving Washington at Wombwell.

4—War memorial unveiled at Darfield.

5—Quarterly meeting of Yorkshire Allotments Federation held at Goldthorpe.

9—New dust-collecting plant at Hickleton Main inspected by Yorkshire Colliery Managers Association.

12—Portable X-ray presented to Montagu Hospital by Hickleton Welfare Fund trustees.

15—Bazaar field in aid of Wombwell Church.

15—Conference held at Wombwell on adjustment of varying charges in Dearne Valley Water Board’s area.

16—Mexboro’ U.D.C. received from Conisborough U.D.C. letter rejecting proposal of amalgamation.

17—Yorkshire Amalgamated Collieries authorised to defer drifting at Cadeby Colliery.

18—Heavy rainfall commenced, nearly six inches falling in six days; extensive flooding in Dearne Valley.

19—Yorkshire Police Forces Athletic Associations held annual sports at Swinton.

23—Reservoir burst at Jump.

24—Rev. W. Ashby welcomed to superintendency of Mexboro’ P.M. Circuit.

August

1—Retirement announced of Rev. A. Crawford, after many years as vicar of Milk Melton; and his succession by Rev. W. Dyer, vicar of Eastwood, Rotherham

8—Headquarters S.J.A.B. opened at Goldthorpe.

11—Ministry of Health inquired into proposal to build town hall at Wombwell, and Ratepayers’ Association opposed.

16—First ambulance competitions held at Denaby Welfare Institute.

29—Dispute caused one day stoppage at Houghton Main.

29—Rev. F. B. Gunnery, vicar of Wath announced acceptance of living of Thornbury (Glous.).

29—Bolton U.D.C. announced scheme of amalgamation with Thurnscoe, with inclusion Barnburgh and Hickleton.

September.

8—Senior school opened at Brampton, provided by Ellis Trust at cost of £15,000.

13—Consternation caused in brickyard region of Mexboro by plague of insects from refuse tip.

17—Dearne Valley Water Board decided to construct Roebuck Bill reservoir at of £9,000, subject to assistance from Unemployment Grants Committee.

20—Portrait of Mr. F. Sokell, late president, unveiled in Wombwell Reform Club.

21—West Melton Wesleyan’ celebrated jubilee.

23—Thurnscoe U.D.C. accepted custody of recreation ground provided by Miners’ Welfare Fund.

23—Number of residents attended stormy meeting of Mexboro’ U.D.C., at which it was decided to cease tipping at the Brickyard.

30—Wath Centre, S.J.A.B. made presentation to Corps Officer Winch, in recognition of 21 years’ service as secretary.
