Lesson in Good Grooming
For Denaby Miners

The well-established “Tony Curtis”, “ Jeff Chandler” and “crew” haircuts of young miners may soon be replaced by the young miners at Denaby for they may soon be attending classes in good grooming to help them create their own individual hairstyles.

Mr. R. Walsh, leader at the Tom Hill youth centre, hopes to attracted boys – many of them young miners at Denaby Main – to a series of classes for good grooming where the boys will be given lessons in how to make the best of their hair.

Starting in the near future will be classes in hair and beauty culture for the girls of the club and Mr Walsh has invited the boys to attend and, if the response is good from the boys, Mr Walsh hopes to start classes for them.

“If we can get one of the boys to sit while the teacher demonstrates on him it will be a big step towards making a start, although it will not be easy.” Says Mr. Walsh.

He hopes to get the boys trained to create their own individual hairstyles and to be more discriminating. The course, he hopes, will include personal hygiene. If the response is good classes will start under the auspices of Rockingham Institute of further education.
