Marriage of Miss Tankard, Of Denaby, And Mr Brooke of Brampton Bierlow

On Wednesday morning last week an interesting ceremony was performed at the Mexborough Parish Church, by the Rev H Ellershaw, M.A.(vicar) where Miss Tankard, niece of Mr Braithwaite of Denaby, was united in marriage Mr George Brooke of Brampton Bierlow.

There was a large company present, the parties concerned being widely known and respected throughout the district.

The bride presented a pleasing appearance and she was attired in a grey Ottoman silk dress, with a reef of orange blossoms and veil.

The bridesmaids Miss Anna Braithwaite, Balby, (cousin to the bride), and Miss Ada tankard (sister to the bride) were dressed in cream, with hats trimmed with wild oats, and they looked very pretty.

The best man was Mr Joseph Brooke the bridegroom’s brother.

After the ceremony the happy couple departed from the church amid the usual salutations. The wedding breakfast was partaken of at Denaby, where Mr and Mrs Braithwaite had provided for the friends and relations of the newly married couple.

The Rev H Ellershaw proposed the health of the bride which was drank amid much enthusiasm, and Mr and Mrs Brooke then departed in a carriage and pair of greys procured from Rotherham, for Masbro, from whence they took train for the English lakes to spend their honeymoon.

Mrs Brookes has been connected for a long time with Denaby, where she has lived with her aunt and uncle, Mr and Mrs Braithwaite, from infancy and she has rendered most invaluable aid, not only to the Sunday school, where she was a teacher but also to the Mission church in which she took a great interest. She also gave considerable help to any good movement in the neighbourhood.

Mr George Brooke is a son of Mr Brooke, a farmer of Old Moor, close to the residence where the newly married couple will take up their abode.
