Mr George West, (76) and his wife, Louise (73), or have lived in Mexborough, Denaby and Conisbrough, on Tuesday celebrated their Golden wedding anniversary.

Mr Mrs West originally lived at Ferryboat Ln, Mexborough. Mr West was a driver for Denaby and Cadeby Home Coal Carting Committee, and before that, worked for the Home Coal Carting Company, which was owned by his father.

They later moved to Woodview Denaby, and then the Carting Committee houses on Low Road, Conisbrough.

When Mr West retired, they went their present home, “Leafield,” Bawtry Road, Blyth.

Mr West was also well-known in the area as a member of Swinton budgerigar club; he is a breeder, and has won the amateur budgerigar section of the Great Yorkshire Show.

Mrs West, whose maiden name was Worth, was the attendant in the front Paybox at Denaby Cinema when it first opened.

The couple have one daughter and one grandson, also lived at Blyth.

Mr and Mrs West were married at Mexborough Parish Church in 1917.
