Matrimonial Failure at Conisbro’.

At the West Biding Petty Sessions at Doncaster on Saturday, Wm. Cramp, a joiner, was charged with having committed an aggravated assault on his wife at Conisbro’, and also with having deserted his wife and family.

Mr. Hall appeared for the complainant, who said the defendant had assaulted her ever since her marriage. On Thursday week he made her mouth bleed profusely from a blow with his fist.

Afterwards he sold the home up, and she had since been at a neighbour’s house along with her two children.

She was assaulted because she would not give him more money to get drink with.

His average earnings were about 26s. per week.

Several persons gave corroborative evidence.

The defendant was fined 20a. and costs for the assault, a separation older was granted, and the husband was to allow the wife 12s. per week.
