3 May 1901

Mexborough and Swinton Times May 3.

Denaby United 2 Attercliffe 1

The weather at Denaby, was somewhat threatening at the commencement, but the ground was in fine condition after the recent showers. Attercliffe were soon aggressive, but were repulsed by Hobson, and the home team went away. Clarke, of Attercliffe, had to retire with a twisted knee, but despite this, Attercliffe pressed, and Hudson just placed wide.

A Whitehouse, with a difficult screw was a trifle wide, and Torr intervened when Chapman was going through, whilst Dean cleared at the home end from Green.

At half-time, nothing had been scored.

On resuming, Denaby attacked, but were repulsed, and Leary scored for Attercliffe. This a little later, however Davis equalised, and before the end A. Whitehouse gave the home team the lead.
