Melee at New Conisborough
A melee at New Conisborough, on the 24th old, resulted in a pit filler named William Norton, being charged at Doncaster, yesterday, with obstructing the police.
Prisoner’s father was been apprehended by a police officer, who was in plain clothes, when the prisoner interfered, and endeavoured to get him away.
Prisoner’s version was that he did not know the officer was a policeman, and seeing him strike his father, who had been bad for three years, he naturally took the latter’s part
Afterwards when he discovered that the officer was a constable he was sorry for what he had done.
He was told that he had no right to interfere with the police, and was fined 20 shillings.
