Mexborough Defence Keeps Score Down at Loughborough.

Loughborough Corinthians beat Mexborough Athletic 2—0 in a moderate Midland League game at Loughborough, yesterday.

In the first half Mexborough worked hard, Wilson, on the right wing, and Wassail, centre, putting in much good work, but Harris scored twice for Loughborough. In the second half the home team were the better side, and Mexborough were mostly on the defensive, but no further scoring took place, thanks to some excellent work back by Annables and Briggs.

Gainsborough Trinity, though having only ten men for most of the game, beat Denaby United 2—1, at Gainsborough, last night.

Gainsborough’s team was badly disorganised for most of the game, Bcrridge, Lawrance, and Fell, the last-named with a cut above the eye, having to retire at various intervals.

Bell and Mills were Gainsborough’s scorers, and Sheldon netted for Denaby, Mills’s goal being a perfect example of opportunism. Kell, who deputised for Berridge when the goalkeeper was injured, was the outstanding player on the field, both in goal and at right back.
