More Fence Thefts

John Mills and John Martin, two Conisbrough miners, were fined 40/– each for stealing two fence posts at Cadeby on Tuesday, April 26.

They were seen by PC Eastham and Sergeant Lewendon to come from the direction of Denaby sidings, each carrying a fence rail, 7 feet in length. When they were asked where they had got them from, they said they had got them out of the water near to the tip, where they had permission to pick.

As the post appeared to have been taken out of the ground, and were the same as used by the Railway Company in fencing, the officers made enquiries and found two were missing from offence, and they were identified.

Martin said they thought they were no good with being in the water. They had take off their shoes in order to get them.
