40 Years At Colliery

Last week end a well known official of the Denaby Main, Colliery retired after many years in the coal mining industry. He is Mr. George Williams of 123 Doncaster Road, Conisbrough.

Mr. Williams might have continued several years yet but for an injury he sustained 5 years ago in the course of his duties and which has been giving him trouble of late.

He has spent 40 years at Denaby Main Colliery, 37 years in an official capacity. For 38 years he has been associated with the Denaby St. John Ambulance Brigade and for 23 years he served as Divisional and Corps Secretary and 13 years as Ambulance Instructor for the West Riding.

He is the holder of many trophies which include the long service medal, four bars and 6 years ago he was made an Honorary Serving Brother. (A coveted honour which he received in London).

Mr Williams served 15 years in the Mines Rescue Brigade and during the 1939 to 1945 war he was Officer in Charge of the Home Guard Stretcher bearers.

Before going to reside at Conisbrough Mr Williamson lived in Denaby Main for many years.
