National Service League at Denaby

A National Service League meeting was held at Denaby Main Wednesday night, Mr. Chambers presiding.

Col, H S. Walker emphasised the justice of every man taking his share in the country’s defence. The patriotic employer of labour was handicapped when in competition with his less patriotic rival. Each employer should bear the same responsibility.

Captain Becke, by aid of a map, demonstrated the naval and military side, laying stress on the folly of relying on the navy alone, and stating that over 60 admirals belonged to the League, including four Admirals of the Fleet. He asked his audience if they thought it possible the navy might evaded, and demonstrated how Villeneuve evaded Nelson.

He drew the attention of the audience the feeble, weedy, slouching youths to be seen in big towns, and asked whether they did not think that this reform was necessary from the moral, physical, and intellectual side?

Mr. Chambers said was in entire sympathy with the lecturers, and knew the audience would do their best to forward the interests of the League
