Denaby

The attendance at Denaby’s Armistice service in the Parish Church yesterday was so large that additional seating had to be provided from the Church Hall.

The service was attended by members of Conisborough Urban Council, and the Vicar (the Rev. S. Powley) dedicated a new banner of the Denaby British Legion Women’s section

Wombwell

A bigger congregation than ever was present in Wombwell Parish Church for the annual Remembrance Service. Extra seats were obtained but many were unable to gain admittance. The congregation numbered about 1,000.

All the ministers in the town took part. At a ceremony at the war memorial in High Street later, it was announced that all Poppy Day records had been broken at Wombwell. Already the receipts totalled over £100 and many boxes had yet to be brought in.
