New Centre Forward lost an Arm at Caen

A conspicuous newcomer to Tickhill Square on Saturday was Kirby, was playing his first game for Denaby centre forward.

One armed (he lost the other in every fighting around Caen, earlier in the war) he hails from Maltby and as left the army after six years service. Before the war he played with Bury.

After a comparatively quiet first half he had a marked share in Denaby’s aggression and drew several bursts of applause for polish, calculated, structural work which is spite of his handicap savoured of cool ease and mastery.
His goal (Denaby’s third) was pleasantly warm for a grand afternoons work. He hopes to continue playing for Denaby (who were without Hardy on Saturday) so we should be seeing more of him this season. Strachan had another good day
