New Conisborough Headmaster
Mexborough Man appointed

The West Riding Education Authority on Tuesday, from a shortlist of five, selected Mr Albert E Platt, of Doncaster Road, Conisborough, to succeed Mr WE Sykes as headmaster of the Junior Mixed Department at the Station Road school, Conisborough.

Mr Sykes retires from the position on January 31 next after having had 35 years teaching experience, the last 14 years as Head at Station Road.

Mr Platt, who was chosen from hundred and 20 applicants, is a native of Mexborough and was educated at Mexborough secondary school and at Sheffield University and took up a teaching appointment in 1924 at the Doncaster Road School, Mexborough. He stayed there until 1929 when the Conisborough Middle School was open and he then became science and physical training specialist at the Middle School.

Mr Platt was responsible for a time for the school football for the past five years has been head teacher of the Conisborough Evening Institute. He is a member of the Hickleton Golf Club and has taken principal parts and productions of the Mexborough Operatic and Dramatic Society.
