No Sunday Wrestling At Denaby
Council Reject Application for Hire Hall

At a meeting of Conlsborough Urban Council last night, only two members supported an attempt to obtain Sunday wrestling at Denaby. The Council decided to refuse an application for the hire of the Baths Hall, Denaby, for wrestling Saturday evenings or Sunday afternoons.

Mr. A. M. Carlin, former Midland League footballer and a member of the Council, said that they had enough sport six days a week, and could without Sunday afternoon wrestling and the trouble that was likely come from It. Supporting Sunday afternoon wrestling.

Mr. R. H. Shephard, the secretary-manager of United Football Club, said that he understood the application was for the formation of wrestling club, and he did not see why the Council should deprive Denaby men of wrestling on the only day they could get together.

Mr. H. Gomersall said that the Council should remember that when they spent £12O three years ago on boxing equipment, promotors let them down, and all the Council got for their £12O expenditure was a £5 return.

The Council decided take firm stand with regard noise made on Sundays by street hawkers at Conlsborough and Denaby. The County Council is to be approached on the matter.
