“A Sore Point”

Two Old Denaby boys who have to cross the River Don by ferry to attend school at Mexborough were, It was alleged by Coun. J. C. Willetts at last night’s meeting of Mexborough Education Divisional Executive, refused by the ferry boatman.

Coun. Willetts said complaints had been received from residents at Old Denaby.   The boys attended Adwick Road Modern School and had to cross the ferry each day for dinner.

“This matter has been a sore point with Mexborough and Old Denaby residents for a long time.” Coun. Willetts said. “Both the West Riding County Council and Doncaster Rural Council have been approached, and we have tried to get a bridge across. but we don’t seem to be making much progress.”

Coun. Willetts said he thought it necessary that an assurance should he received from the canal executive that there would be no repetition of the incident

Mr. E. B Stockdale, Divisional Education Officer said a letter had already been sent to Yorkshire Navigation Company but no reply had yet been received.
