Old Denaby gives Welcome Home

Old Denaby gave a real welcome home to a local man returned last Wednesday from the B.L.A.after having served 18 months in the Army without having had a leave.

Driver J Spyve joined the forces 18 months ago and is in the R.A.S.C..

It was the first time his parents had seen him since the day he left home. He is a lorry driver.

Flags and bunting were flying on Friday and residents had a tea to celebrate his return. About 50 guests attended, and afterwards the village school rang with the laughter of the guests, who had increased to about 150, all the residents being invited to a social evening. A band was engaged and refreshments provided.

Before enlistment driver Spyve was engaged at the works of Messrs Edgar Allen at Denaby Main.
