“Red Tape” Prevents Building.

Old Denaby parish council have not progressed any further in their building programme due to “too much’ red tape’ in the organisation of nationalised industries,” said coun. G. W. Haines at last night’s meeting of the council in old Denaby School. The council has a program to build four new houses, but so far the land has not been purchased due to the difficulty in approaching the Yorkshire Electricity Board.

“If the land had been privately owned houses will be built by now.” Said the chairman, Coun. J. Webster. The Council cannot issue a compulsory purchase order to nationalised industry.

It was decided to write to Doncaster Rural Council asking for their cooperation.

Coun. A. Durrans said that the Council had been hoping to get an allocation of another four houses next year but as this year’s program had not yet been started it looked as if they would not get a chance to share.

The council decided to ask Mr A Reynolds, chief sanitary inspector of Doncaster Rural Council, to inspect all the cesspools in the parish. When the wet weather comes the cesspools are filled to capacity with rain and then start overflowing, causing much inconvenience to householders. It was also decided to ask Doncaster Rural Council to consider a sewage disposal scheme for the parish.

No progress has been made with the council’s proposal to build a bridge over the river and canal. It was decided to send a letter to Mexborough Urban Council asking for their cooperation in the scheme. The council had not received any help in this matter from the Yorkshire Parish Councils Association, to whom they had written. Coun. Durrans suggested writing to the Association asking for some help otherwise they would consider withdrawing their subscription

The proposal to pipe the ditches in Denaby Lane is to be brought up at next meeting of Doncaster Road Safety Committee. A letter is to be sent from the parish council to Doncaster rural Council asking them to pass the matter to the Road Safety Committee.

The road surface in Denaby Lane has been repaired, but due to the cost the ditches had not been piped.
