Two local men who went overseas together served in the same unit in the Middle East for a period and then met in France recently. Both came on leave last week from Germany.

Cpl Frank Stacey (30) second son of Mr and Mrs G. H. Stacey, of 9 Don view, Mexborough was in Iraq for three and a half years before coming home for leave. He then went to France and came home again at Christmas for another leave.

He has served in France, Holland, Belgium and Germany since going to the continent, and says they are having an easy time now that the war has been won.

Cpl Bill Hammersley (23) is a son of Mr and Mrs. J. Hammersley are all of 6 Athelstane Road, Conisbrough .

He went overseas in 1940 and was with Cpl Stacey for about 12 months. On going to the continent in August last they again met and have been able stay together ever since.

Both are engaged in the same kind of work that of salvaging crashed Typhoons and they have been out as far as Baltic on the jobs.
