A Paltry Case from Conisborough.
Frances Jordan, married woman, of Conisborough, was summoned for having assaulted Willie France, a child, at Conisborough on May 19.
The evidence showed that the summons arose out of a neighbours row.
Willie France had struck Mrs Jordan’s boy, and called him a nickname, whereupon Mrs Jordan chastised him by boxing his ears. That was the assault complained off.
One witness said the defendant “thrashed him scandalous,” and hit him over a dozen times.
The magistrates were evidently of opinion that the defendant had struck the boy, though she denied it, but the Chairman said: we think this case is too paltry to be convicted; it is ridiculous to summon a person for boxing a boys ears.
The case was dismissed
