A Plate Layer Cut to Pieces.

On Tuesday morning a shocking accident occurred in the yard of the Denaby main pit, whereby an old man, William Barrett (73), a plater layer, who has been in the employ of the company for many years, was killed.

He was oiling points, and stepped between trucks, tripped and fell, shunted by the colliery engine. He had his oil-can In his hand, was struck by the engine, carried by the “cow catchers,” about 15 yards, and then drawn in under the wheels of the engine.  His body was crushed, one of his legs cut off and one arm.

Diseased, who resided in Holgate, Mexborough, was removed to his late home about noon. Diseased leaves a wife and upgrown family. He was connected with the Wesleyan body
