Pugilists at Conisborough

For having committed a breach of the peace by fighting at Conisborough on 9 October, John Cartwright and William Green had to pay the costs, and were bound over the six months in the sum of 40 shillings

PC Wailes in the case, said at 3-20 p.m. on the Monday, the 9th inst he was on duty in Loversall Street, New Conisborough, when he saw a crowd of about 200 people assembled.

The defendants were in the midst of it, fighting. Cartwright was stripped to the waist. He separated them and both were bleeding from the face.

William Simpkin, property agent of Tickhill Street, Denaby gave corroborated evidence.
