Retirement
Today (Saturday) a well known Conisborough resident, Mr. Milton C. Fowler, of 70, Highfield Road, is retiring from his post as the head storekeeper at Denaby Main Colliery.
Mr. Fowler is retiring before reaching the usual retiring age owning to indifferent health over the last year or two.
He is known to many people in Conisborough where he has lived all his life, and in Denaby Main. He started in the weigh office of the then Denaby and Cadeby Collieries about 50 years ago. He moved to the general offices and about 30 years ago was appointed head storekeeper.
For a number of years he has been the secretary for Denaby colliery retirement scheme and was also secretary for the old Board of management of the Fullerton Hospital, following the registration of the late Mr. S. R. Johnson.
When the national health service took over in 1948 the old board members formed the hospital voluntary aid fund (now known better as the comfort fund) and Mr. Fowler became the secretary and has held the post to the present day.
He has been chorister at the Conisborough parish church practically from boyhood and he was also for many years a member of the bell ringing team.
He has the good wishes of all his colleagues that both he and Mrs. Fowler will be able to enjoy the retirement., and that better health will come when he is able to relax from responsibility.
