Stoker Harry Drury has served in the Royal Navy after years and for the past 18 months has been on submarine surface in falling waters.

He was very well known in local sporting circles, having played for Frickley in the Midland league, Edlington and Dinnington Main in the Sheffield Association league.

Prior to joining the Navy he was a boiler man at the Conisbrough brickyard. His wife and only daughter reside at 5 Brook Square, Conisbrough.

His nephew, Leading M.M. John A Drury, is also in the Royal Navy.

Although only 19 years he has served for more than two years which have been full of incident.

Shortly after his 19th birthday he was landing troops at the Angio Beachhead, and on D-Day was carried out a similar operation on the Normandy beaches.

He is an old boy of Mexborough Secondary School, and was employed in the quarries at Warmsworth

His parents reside at 6 Doncaster Road Conisbrough.
