School exhibition

On Tuesday evening, in the large hall, an exhibition of schoolwork and economy cookery was given under the auspices of the local food economy campaign. The work of the boys department, drawings, modelling, bookbinding excess was very good.

In the girls room were shown new garments made from old ones, and also a variety of fancy work.

In the infants room were drawings and clay modelling, and neither work done by children of six.

In another room was exhibited a great variety of war cookery recipes.

After the exhibition there was an address by Mr Brown, H.M.I. of schools. Mr H W Smith presided. Mr Brown said he was delighted five such talent in Denaby. The exhibits and the dancing and singing of the children spoke well for the teachers. Mr W Watson, the Head Teacher, proposed a vote of thanks to the Chairman and Mr Brown. He also thanked the parents and friends for coming in such large numbers. It was important for parents and teachers to work together, because the war had taught them how important was education. He hoped to make that gathering an annual event.

The Rev HB Greeves seconded the vote of thanks.

During the evening the infants, under the supervision of Miss Cawton and Miss Moore gave a programme of dances. The elder girls, trained by Miss Jackson, sang very well and the boys, under Mr Unsworth, also gave a musical programme.
