The only boy from the whole Mexborough and Dearne Valley Associations to find a place in the “Battle of the Roses” match at Mexborough, to-day, is Cyril Shepherd of Conisborough.

He is the first Conisborough boy chosen to play for his county.

From the first cay he commenced playing football for Morley place Boys’ School he figured in the forward line, and was a prolific goalscorer, until the present season, his position being centre-half.

There was glut forwards in the district, and all these would requiring trials, few half-backs, so he asked his teacher to recommend him to the Mexborough and District Association as a half-back.
