Shepherd’s Concert

The Large Hall in the Station Hotel, Conisborough, was on Saturday evening the scene of much animation.

The Shepherd’s Lodge were holding a concert, and a special engagement of several artists of high repute from Sheffield rendered the occasion all the more auspicious. Mr John Lowe was in the chair, and during the evening presentation were made to brothers Sykes,’s Hazeldine, and Brough for the good work done by them in connection with the Lodge.

Brother William Mosby, speaking on the growth of the organisation, said that it was but a short time ago the Lodge was up with 19 members, and now that number had risen to 101, besides 20 juvenile; and he was sure that the members who had received the presents, after that night would have some tangible emblem of their work to look upon. He urged upon every man the necessity of joining some society, as the benefits accruing there from were very beneficial.

Afterwards Mrs McMullen, Sheffield sang “The Carnival,” “Killarney,” “Cherry Ripe,” and “Kitty,” an Irish song;

and Miss Connie Gordon delighted the audience with their renderings of “Mother,” “Molly, the Marchioness,” “Blanche Marie,” and “Try again, Johnny.”

Miss Gordon is a charming personality, and possesses rare vocal powers of great promise.

Mr Jack Hart appeared in the role of a China man, and his interpretation of the Yiddish was remarkable.

The usual vote of thanks concluded an enjoyable evenings entertainment.
