Silver Jubilee of George V and Queen Mary
A subcommittee of the Council has made the following suggestion for celebrating the Jubilee:
A free tea for all schoolchildren, roundabouts and similar amusements on the Crags;
Children’s sports on Denaby Football Ground;
Processions with banners;
Fireworks on North Cliff Hills in the evening;
Mugs or Medals for schoolchildren
A swimming gala for children;
A dance in the Large Hall, (proceeds for Boots for bairn’s fund);
An old fork Street on the following day;
Tradesman’s window display with prizes;
A fire brigade display;
An illuminated trolley car;
Prizes for the best decorated streets;
The crags playground to be decorated with bunting, and the Denaby Memorial Park to be decorated and illuminated;
A variety entertainment in the Large Hall on Monday (proceeds for Boots for Bairns fund);
Torchlight procession of schoolboys and scouts;
The Colliery Company is to be asked to provide a bonfire;
Schools are to be asked to make banners, material to be supplied;
In the event of rain tea will be taken in the school;
The committee is to be enlarged by co-opting teachers, ministers, trade union and friendly society representatives, colliery officials, trustees of the Miners Welfare Institute and private citizens.
Separate committees are to be appointed to take charge of various activities
